Preparation of Masu Bara is one of the most popular snacks you can find in Nepal. It involves grinding lentil with other ingredients and spooning the mixture onto a hot pan to cook it. The cooked snack looks like patties or cutlets, hence its other name—Tikki Fry. Once cooked, these baras are served with a dip made of yogurt and tomato chutney. – 1/2 kg of black lentil
– 300 grams ground meat (chicken, mutton or buffalo)
– A pinch of salt
– 1 cup oil
– 1/2 tablespoon turmeric
– A little ginger paste
1. Soak the black lentil in cold water for a night.
2. Wash off the skin and grind the lentil into a fine paste (use as little water as possible).
3. Add turmeric, ginger, garlic, two eggs/ 3 tablespoons ground meat and salt to the mixture and stir it properly.
4. Heat a Nepali flat pan (tawa), put half tablespoon of oil.
5. Take some cold water in a bowl.
6. When the oil is hot, put some water in your left palm and take a small ball shape of the mixture with your right hand and spread it onto the pan using all your fingers.
7. Turn both sides and if needed, add some oil around the bara.
8. Cover it and let it cook for sometime until it turns golden brown on both sides.
9. Serve hot with tomato chutney or yogurt dip!
