- 2 cups of rice
- 2 tablespoon of moong or musoor dal
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 garlic cloves
- 1 teaspoon ginger paste
- 2 tablespoon oil
- 4 cups of water
- Salt and pepper to taste (optional)
- Β½ cup fresh spinach leaves
- Β½ carrot, grated (optional)
1. Pre-soak the rice and dal for 15 minutes in lukewarm water.
2. In a deep-bottomed pan, heat oil over medium flame. Add the finely chopped onions, garlic cloves, ginger paste and fry until they turn golden brown.
3. Now add the pre-soaked rice and dal and mix it well with the fried ingredients.
4. Pour in the water, add salt and pepper, spinach leaves and grated carrot (optional).
5. Bring it to a boil, lower the flame and cover the pan with a lid. Cook for 20-25 minutes until all the moisture is absorbed and you get a soft jaulo.
6. Turn off the heat and serve hot or cold as per your preference. You can also garnish this tasty dish with freshly chopped parsley or coriander leaves for added flavor.
